PROGNOSIS OF DISEASE
If you are not going to die, you will heal or be controlled.
If you do not intervene, the disease process will result in healing or control, which ensures return to routine activity. If your time has come, only then disease will result in death. If not, survival is the rule no matter what the therapy is (unless radical intervention causes death).
In individuals with a healthy constitution, healing occurs rapidly within an expected time interval. Prognosis of disease is estimating this time interval.
The below estimates are very general and meant to outline an average duration of various types of disease. It is not to be regarded as a hard and fast rule for predicting or estimating disease duration.
|TYPE OF DISEASE||TENTATIVE PROGNOSIS|
|TRAUMA||less than 3 months|
|ACUTE INFECTION||less than 2 weeks|
|CHRONIC INFECTION||less than 3-6 months|
|AUTOIMMUNE INFLAMMATION||many recurrent episodes of 6 months|
|DEGENERATIVE||slow progress over years|
|MALIGNANCY||life expectancy may be up to 5 years.|
